Birding

Many species of birds are resident or migrant in western Kerr County. The rare and endangered Black-capped Vireo and Golden-cheeked Warbler are indigenous to the Texas Hill Country.

Both are found on the Ranch, and a 40 acre Black-capped Vireo sanctuary has been created on the north side of FM 1340 as part of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Safe Harbor agreement, supervised by Environmental Defense Fund.

Rio Grande Turkeys flourish in this area, attracted to roosting sites in the tall trees along the Ranch’s lakes, streams, and draws.

Stowers Ranch participates in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count and more than 50 species have been indentified on the property. Click here to download a complete list.

Bald and Golden Eagles excite particular interest during winter months when observed soaring above a bluff that borders Bonnibel Lake.

The Ranch encourages organized birding groups to arrange visits. Individuals are also welcome. We do not guide bird-watching tours but will provide maps showing the best areas for viewing a particular bird and lead you to these areas if they are difficult to find.

Charge: $50 per adult, per day. There is no charge for children 17 years of age and younger accompanying their parents.
